Travis County District Attorney Ronald Earle today released the following statement:
The Travis County Grand Jury today indicted State District Judge Amado Jose Abascal, III on 2 counts of Aggravated Perjury. Aggravated Perjury, a Third Degree Felony, is punishable by 2-10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Abascal is one of 2 district judges for the 365th Judicial District of Texas which includes Maverick, Zavala and Dimmitt counties. Judge Abascal is currently under indictment for the offense of Tampering with a Governmental Record, a State Jail Felony. These additional Aggravated Perjury charges stem from testimony that Judge Abascal gave before the Travis County Grand Jury on October 20, 2005.
